Hi, I’m Emily, Max’s mom. Max has been battling Leukemia since he was 4 years old, he’s now 11.
When he was 4, he endured 2.5 years of chemo therapy and was cancer free for another 2.5 years. On Christmas of 2020, we noticed the same symptoms coming back. One blood test confirmed he was having a late-relapse. Since 2020, he has underwent several different types of treatments. When he was 9, he received an experimental treatment called Kymriah. We were all hopeful it would work for life, but less than a year later on a routine biopsy they saw leukemia returning. So now, we are preparing for a bone marrow transplant. He’s currently receiving round-the-clock chemo to try and rid his marrow of every trace of cancer. We will know in 2 weeks if it has worked. If it hasn’t, he will go back for an addition 30 days of round-the-clock chemo to try and get his disease amount to zero.
Once he is at zero, we will be admitted to Duke for a minimum 100 day stay. He will receive a bone marrow transplant from an unknown donor. We will get to meet them 365 days after transplant.
But I need help. We are small business owners, and are struggling to make ends meet, especially since cost-of-living has gone up so incredibly much. It’s a lot to ask right now, for help, but we aren’t sure what else to do. I’m afraid we will lose our home if we don’t do something.
Any amount will help, big or small, and if you can’t donate a share would be wonderful.
We have high hopes he’ll be coming home with us cured. But if not, we will need help picking up the pieces.
In his 7 year battle I’ve never been one to ask for help. But I cant-not ask anymore.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I’ll post updates on here for anyone who would like updates.
