Mighty Maverick’s Road to Recovery

On Thursday, May 15, Brittany Zirfas and her 18 month old son Maverick were involved in a devastating head-on collision. The other vehicle was traveling at nearly 80 mph upon impact. The crash left both Brittany and Maverick with life-altering injuries, and their family forever changed.

Brittany suffered multiple broken bones and faces a long and painful road to recovery. She was also 12 weeks pregnant with a baby girl at the time of the accident. Heartbreakingly, doctors have confirmed that her baby girl did not survive. This unimaginable loss adds yet another layer of grief to an already overwhelming situation.

Most critical of all, baby Maverick is fighting for his life. He sustained severe injuries, including fractures to his C1 and C2 vertebrae, brain damage, and spinal cord trauma. At this time, it’s unknown how these injuries will affect him in the long term. Maverick remains in the hospital, and the length of his stay is still uncertain.
