Mighty Matt's Recovery
Donation protected
On Saturday July 25th Matt attempted to do a back flip on a trampoline which he has done a million times. This time was a different story. He landed on his neck breaking his C6 and C7 with herniated discs and a pinched spinal cord. Instantly he lost sensation in the lower half of his body. He went through an 8 hour surgery to remove discs and take pressure off his spinal cord and had to have rods and screws put in place.
Matt has been in the ICU at Paoli Hospital since then. Today he was able to move to the PCU. We are hopeful that by Friday he will be transferred to Magee which is an inpatient rehabilitation center downtown and start this road to recovery.
In the matter of seconds this families lives were literally turned upside down. Together Jenna and Matt have a 10 year old son, and a 3 month old daughter. Jenna is taking things day by day and continues to work for now. However, this is going to be a LONG road to recovery. Jenna will need to take some time off from work when Matt gets home to help him get acclimated.
Thankfully Matt does have health insurance. However, they are only going to cover a certain amount of time in rehab. Medical bills are quickly going to stack up. The prognosis really depends on numerous things but his surgeon is confident he will make a close to full recovery. Upon discharge from rehab I am sure Matt will need equipment to help continue therapy at home, and navigate life at home, and temporary handicap accessibility. We are so hopeful that Matt will make a full recovery with time.
The last thing I want my best friends to have to worry about is money. Jenna, Matt and the kids will have to 100% focus on Matts recovery and keep positive vibes. No donation is too small.
From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of the Piccone Family I sincerely thank you. #MightyMatt
