Mighty Madison

Hi, we are Madison’s aunties. Madison is the 10 month old daughter of Brittany Mahussier and Cole Butler of Porcupine Plain, SK. This little sweetheart and her family have recently received some really devastating news.

Madison has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called Anaplastic Ependymoma. She has already gone through a risky brain surgery at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, to remove the tumor, however her journey does not end there. Even though the tumor was removed successfully, cells are left behind - meaning it could come back at any time. It could come back in her brain (in more spots) as well as spread to her spine.

Due to the nature of this cancer, aggressive radiation is required for any hope of survival. As Madison is so young (only 10 months old) the radiation will be very hard on her little body and is likely to cause permanent/life altering damage. Since this is the only option, Madison will begin treatments as soon as possible. As if this family didn’t have enough to worry about, they have also learned that Canada does not offer the specific treatment she requires. To get the best outcome, she requires proton radiation which delivers a more precise beam of radiation, making it less likely to damage nearby tissue than the traditional radiation. This treatment is offered in the United States.

As this family will have many unexpected costs we are reaching out to you for support. Outside of the expenses that multiple trips to the US comes with (travel, meals, accommodations, etc.) this family is looking at ongoing medical and travel expenses for the rest of Madison’s life. Not to mention the financial strain that being away from work puts on them. Every little bit helps lighten the load for this family and any contributions are greatly appreciated.
