Mighty For Maggie Moving Forward

The Dwyer family has lived through an incredible amount of adversity over the past few years. We are so happy that Maggie is in remission now. However, 2.8 years of cancer treatments, during a pandemic took its toll. As many of you know, their family struggled to come to grips with the enormity of the situation but did what they always do, put one foot in front of the other and carried on, humbly. They rejected multiple pleas to start a GoFundMe.

After the initial outpouring of love and support, they didn't want to burden anyone further, felt too proud to ask, and didn't truly realize the long-term financial strain the medical bills would accrue. With job changes to accommodate care for Maggie and Kate (including change in medical insurance), significant water damage to their house, and additional mental health medical bills to help support the family, they also have been dealing with their cherished Tufts Floating Hospital having closed their doors and incurring different unexpected costs and structure with a new hospital.

While in remission, Maggie still has oncology appointments every two months, a full neuropsychological exam every three years to track the impact of the chemotherapy on Maggie's brain and cognitive development, as well as testing such as echocardiograms, endocrinology etc.

It is after much persuasion that they allowed us to put them in the most vulnerable of positions and ask for help. We think that accepting help is a sign of strength. We all know that the first people that would come to our aid would be the Dwyers, after all.
