Megan Lowther Evans Stroke Recovery Fundraiser

Donation protected
On August 22, 2020, Megan suffered a massive stroke caused by a bacterial infection in her heart. As is the case with many strokes, this came out of the blue and was totally unexpected. Megan was 43 years old, in good health, and a vibrant person who loved life -- especially her family and friends.

As many of you recall, she underwent two life-saving surgeries, followed by 2 months at Spaulding Rehab, and another 2 months in a skilled nursing facility before finally coming home, where she immediately began receiving home-based therapy services. Two days before Christmas of 2020, we received the devastating news that Megan was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy, then underwent 6 weeks of radiation, which she handled like a champ. She continues to receive post-cancer care and everything looks great, thank God.

For the past 10 months, Mighty Meg, as she has come to be known, has been receiving intensive outpatient PT and Speech therapy at Spaulding Rehab. We continue to be amazed by both her progress and her attitude. She works incredibly hard and has made great advances with her walking and daily functioning. Unfortunately, she is still unable to move her right side, and her speech and communication remain significantly impaired.

While we're so very grateful for the progress that Megan has made, her life today looks very different than it did before the stroke. She obviously will not ever be able to return to her beloved job working with elementary aged Autistic and other special needs children, which has significantly impacted her income.

Meg’s husband Matt has been a rockstar in supporting her every step of the way. After suffering some health issues himself, he is back to work but has altered his hours in order to spend more time with Megan. This, of course, has also impacted their financial situation. We invite you to contribute and support Megan during this difficult time.

Anyone who knows Megan knows that she is the sweetest, most loving, caring, and amazing person in the world, and she’d do anything for anyone. We are so grateful for all of the love, prayers, and support Megan’s extended family and friends have shown her. It is truly overwhelming to see how MANY people love this girl!
