El cáncer de Migdalia

[Versión en español primero/ English version at the bottom]

NUESTRA HISTORIA:

Muchas gracias,
David Quilarque

OUR STORY:

Our lives changed when Migda noticed a change on the shape of her right breast, she had felt a lump. Worried by her symptoms, that same week, we tried finding a quick diagnosis. However, the poor and scarce health system in Venezuela - especially during these unprecedented pandemic times, made the whole process long, expensive and complicated. After weeks of waiting, we finally received the most scary diagnosis: my mother has stage 3 breast cancer.

The doctors recommended an initial treatment; chemotherapy for six months. Unfortunately, the cancer was so aggressive that even before starting the first round and in just a matter of weeks, it became a stage 3.

Regardless the aggressiveness of the now stage 3 cancer, Migda’s Oncologist remains very optimistic about her chances of survival. On September 30th, she was finally able to fully begin her chemo rounds.

According to the doctors, once she finishes her rounds of chemo they would need to perform a radical mastectomy on my mother, followed by radiotherapy. The treatment MUST be as aggressive as her diagnosis and is precisely in this part where I hope I can count on your support - after reading these lines.

Our insurance doesn’t cover any of the treatments that I mentioned above. The total of expenses are yet unknown, however, we estimate that the cost will be starting from $25,000; this includes: doctor visits, additional medicines and/or medical urgencies; and because of the type of treatment (very aggressive to increase her healing success rate) we would need to pay everything up front. At the moment, I really don’t count with that kind of money, and I look to you for help.

My mom is a fighter, an amazing woman that’s full of life and hope. She has the best attitude and is ready to truly fight against this horrible disease. We just need your help to cover the whole treatment. Anything that your heart is ready to give, we would be grateful for life. Any dollar counts towards her full recovery!

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

With the help of some good friends, I recently opened a GoFundMe account. If you are not able to contribute, I kindly ask you to repost this link in your social media accounts and spread the word with your friends and family.

From my family to yours, may God bless you forever and in advance I thank you for your kindness and support!

Thank you,
