Midwifery Teaching in Uganda

Donation protected
As most of you will know, I am passionate about safe, kind, midwifery care and very fortunate to work in a country where childbirth is considered a safe and wonderful experience....mostly.

Many of you will also know, I have a horrible fear of flying and being away from home for more than a night or two.....

However, I have been offerred an amazing opportunity to take the skills and experience I have gained within the NHS as a practice development midwife to support the education of midwives and doctors in Lira Uganda who strive to provide safer care for women and babies often under dire conditions including lack of running water!  I have no doubt I will learn some life lessons too!

Every day, 15 women die in Uganda from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes, 94 babies are stillborn and 81 newborn babies die. This equates to 695,701 deaths each year due to complications during pregnancy, childbirth and in the first month.  Often these could be avoided by improved management of obstetric emergencies.

It costs about £1,600 to send a healthcare teacher to Uganda and I would like to raise at least enough money to cover the cost of my travel.  Any donation you could make would be very much appreciated!

I am also hoping to do cake bakes and boots sales to boost this page and if anyone has any tips on sedation during flights I would also be most grateful....as will the rest of the team!

Thanks
Julie
