Hi everyone,

We’re Anya & Leah, two midwives from the UK. In June 2026 we’re travelling to Kompiam Rural Hospital in Papua New Guinea for one month to volunteer our skills and support the incredible healthcare staff working there.

Kompiam Rural Hospital serves communities deep within the remote Enga Province — one of the most disadvantaged areas in Papua New Guinea.

For many women in Papua New Guinea, pregnancy and childbirth are sadly not always associated with joy and celebration, but instead with fear, uncertainty and heartbreak. Many maternal and neonatal deaths are preventable with access to supervised hospital care. Almost every family has experienced the devastating loss of a baby, often within the first month or year of life. Because of these traumatic experiences, childbirth is sometimes approached with reservation and emotional detachment rather than excitement and hope.

This is one of the reasons we feel so strongly about supporting the women, babies and healthcare workers at Kompiam.

During our time there, we hope to positively contribute to maternity and newborn care by supporting local staff, sharing knowledge and helping wherever we are needed most.

Alongside volunteering our time, we would love to raise money that can directly support the hospital with essential equipment, medical supplies and resources that can make a real difference to the care women and their families receive every day.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards improving healthcare for mothers and newborns in an area where even basic resources can have a huge impact.
