Midwifery Elective Placement in New Zealand

Hi Everyone!

My name is Caitlin and I am a 2nd year student midwife in the UK. Since beginning my studies in midwifery, I've been passionate about supporting women and their families through one of the most significant moments of their lives. As a part of my degree, I have the opportunity to travel to New Zealand for an elective midwifery placement in December.

New Zealand is renowned for its holistic and inclusive approach to midwifery, blending modern practices with traditional Māori culture. This clinical observational placement will provide me with invaluable experiences, such as exposure to different healthcare systems, the opportunity to experience diverse cultural practices in maternity care, enhance my clinical skills and give me a broader perspective on global maternal child health issues. This will also provide me with an opportunity for my own personal and professional development, with insights that I can bring back to my future practice.

As a student I am working hard to save but unfortunately our degree requires 2300 hours of unpaid placement work, which only makes it more difficult to save money for this elective placement using my part-time job (on my days off!) and student loan. Your support can make this life-changing experience a reality, where funds raised will cover return flights to Nelson, accommodation, transport to and from the hospital and living expenses. The rest of the money would go towards any additional costs such as vaccinations and travel insurance.
