Midshipman 1/C Diagnosed With Keratoconus

Donation protected
Hello all,

My name is James, and I'm a contracted Midshipman 1st Class working towards a commission in the Marine Corps. I've just completed 4 years of studying and NROTC at the University of Kansas this past May; graduating with a degree in philosophy.

I'd always wanted to pursue a career in the military serving in any fashion, however aviation seemed to be an amazing opportunity. Sadly, during my flight physical, I was diagnosed with a progressive eye disease called Keratoconus (conical cornea). This barred me from both ground and air contracts. Keratoconus is a condition that occurs when the cornea(s) begin to thin. This leads to double vision, mirrored vision, light sensitivity, distorted vision, and nearsightedness. I am currently on a medical leave of absence pending surgical correction through collagen cross linking. Once I receive this surgery, I will be able to finally acquire a medical waiver and receive my commission as a Marine Corps officer.

My vision has severely decayed since the time of my initial diagnosis in February. I worry that if I don't receive this surgery in the near future, my left cornea will become too thin for the operation.

Any and all donations will go towards financing the surgery. Thank you so much for reading this far. I am so grateful for your potential support.

Thank you,
James
