Midnight the unbroken

Today in the life of a crazy cat dude:

The chronicles of midnight the unbroken: the complete story so far.

One week ago I was driving to MMA in the rain when an inky black shape lurched out of the way of traffic, the movement was wrong, so my eyes were drawn to it immediately.

A cat. and it was hurt. Badly.

As I pulled into a parking lot my mind made a plan, come at it from the road, so she didn't flee into traffic. She flinched when i reached out but immediately rubbed in my hand. She tried to walk to me her hind leg was dangling and broken and she fell. I picked her up, and she didn't fight at all. Nothing but ribs and a spine I put her into my car and turned around for home.

She ate through an entire can of food before I read online that you aren't supposed to feed an emaciated cat to quickly but instead slowly over a period of time. Ok then. One spoonful an hour every hour for the first day. Then every four hours a few spoonfuls.

Then I went to the vet. I asked for an x-ray and a swipe with my credit car later she had her X-rays and check-up. The prognosis was ...not good. The leg needed surgery immediately, or she needed to be put down. I asked about her profound emaciation but she said it was secondary to the leg.

The price tag, 1700 for an amputation. 3,000 for a leg repair.

I immediately started calling around, found a place that was 500 less. After the vet talked to me extensively about her need to be euthanized.

Give me the cat and send the x-rays over to the new vet.

Spoonful by spoonful. She needed to have eyes on me. Limping after me, leg askew, making me build cardboard and wood ramps everywhere because she freaked out if she didn't see me. Falling off things and hurting herself to not let me vanish from her line of sight. I tried to crate her but she threw herself against it trying to get to my side. Looks like im sacrificing pillows for her to sleep on while I work on the computer.

The next day I went to the second vet .

This vet was horrified that the previous suggested a leg amputation, agreeing with me that her starvation emaciation was the priority. We ordered up blood work and the prognosis got worse. Her white blood cell count was really high. her respiratory infection was pervasive. I was once again offered the chance to gift her with a gentle end. Or painkillers and antibiotics, then see if we can reassess in a month.

Give me midnight.

They gave me a a week worth of Meds. I don't think they expected her to last that long. They told me to bring her in as soon as things went downhill. If she stopped eating.

Spoon full by spoonful. Waking every few hours to feed her. She improves.

And so here I am doing something I have never done before. I made a go-fund me. This kitten deserves a chance. She is such a sweetheart. She has placed herself in my care. I want to earn the look of pure unadulterated love she stares at me with even now. Because I sure as hell don't feel like I've earned that.

I am shooting for 1500 to cover expenses for the amputation and to recover some of the costs I've already incurred.

Please help.
