Midland Flood Relief for Dennis and Rachel Dugger
On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, the Edenville Dam failed after two days of record setting rainfall. This resulted in a surge of water from Wixom Lake careening downstream towards Sanford Dam. 10,000 residents were required to immediately evacuate as it was stated that the Sanford Dam was also imminent to fail. Water crested Sanford Dam and later that night, a state of emergency was declared. Record high water levels were observed on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 resulting in the indiscriminate devastation of homes and businesses alike.
Dennis and Rachel Dugger have lived in a home just off of M-20 since 1986. They ended up having 4+ feet of water in their basement. Although it was able to be pumped out by Friday, May 22nd, the high water resulted in the total loss of nearly everything in this finished space, including their furnace, water heater, washer, dryer, furniture, food, and a lifetime of memories. By Sunday, nearly everything had been removed and placed to the edge of the road to be taken to the city dump.
Dennis and Rachel will need to replace the water heater, furnace, washer, and dryer at a minimum. They will need to bring in a professional to ensure that the work completed mitigated the damage and potential for mold growth over time. They will have to consider the potential costs of basic refinishing efforts just to ensure safety post clean-up from the demolition of the space to dry it out. These funds will be used to assist with these costs. Thankfully they have had physical help with the removal of the items and materials, but they are faced with a huge financial burden. Dennis and Rachel are the parents of 5 children and have 13 grandchildren (with #14 on the way). They have been a blessing to countless others. Please consider being a blessing to them now.
