Micro-Premie Christmas Miracle

December 22nd, 2016 became the day our Christmas Miracle, Kazlyn Elizabeth, changed our life. It started when the Doctor called, requesting Alicia to get blood work and an ultrasound at one of Buffalo's finest hospitals. At 25 weeks pregnant it was routine at this point, Alicia and I both decided to make a day of it. A trip to Buffalo might as well be completed with Christmas shopping and dinner, or so we thought. It was 10AM and minutes after we arrived the nurse threw a blood pressure cuff on Alicia and it read 190s/110s, protein in her urine was record high with our nurse. Preeclampsia protocol was met, and Alicia was admitted. Everything at this point moved very quickly, I just held her hand we assured eachother that everything was going to be fine. Once Alicia became stable around 1:30pm, the nurse had to restablish a fetal heart rate, with some trouble she requested the Doctor only to discover that Kazlyn's heart rate plummeted. An emergency c-section save both Alicia and Kazlyn from placental abruption. Kazlyn came out with a cry, and was fighter before birth.

Alicia at 25 weeks and 4 days pregnant gave birth to Kazlyn Elizabeth at 0.48 Kg and 11 1/2 inches long on December 22nd, 2016 at 1:51pm.

A start to a long bumpy road that we weren't prepared for, Kazlyn will be spending at least the next 13 weeks In the NICU. Her lungs aren't mature, intibated with periods of apnea, a ventilator assist her with breathing. Constant changes are being made with her fluids, feeding, and ventilator. Our biggest worry; the heart echo and cerebral ultrasound came back and everything looks good. Tolerating only a milliter of breast milk over an hour, everyday she becomes stronger. Her eyes are still fused and we are anxiously awaiting the day our eyes meet.

The hospital is over and hour away from our home, and at this time we both ask for help. Unexpectedly Alicia is out of work and more importantly is spending every minute she can with Kazlyn. Time doesn't stop and I have no choice but to return to work to meet the cost of daily living for all three of us. Still in the hospital medical bills filled our mailbox. Our journey to buffalo left us bruised and battered, but as long as we are together we are strong. All we ask for are prayers and peace of mind, God bless.

-With love
