For Mick Geach on behalf of Roy Castle LCF

Hi, my name is David Geach. Me and my family are looking to do different fundraisers in memory of our Dad (Mick Geach) on behalf of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Dad was 53 years old when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in November which progressed rapidly. We lost dad on Christmas Eve which was only weeks later. In Dad’s case there were no symptoms to alarm him of the primary cancer and only became aware when he got a pain in his shoulder. This was the secondary stage of cancer, and at this point it was already too late. Before even getting a chance to go and see a doctor to check out this pain, it was too late. As a family, we hope to share our experience and encourage people to listen to their bodies and get themselves checked by their doctors if they are ever in doubt that something is wrong.

Lung Cancer is the second most common out of all of the cancers but there is only one charity in the UK which is specific and that is Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. We had never even heard of the Charity until we had to go searching on the internet.

We have started small by me, Roxy (my sister) and Dave (my brother in law) signing up to run the distance of 26.2 miles across the month of December. This will be spread out across a number of runs and not all in one go. This will be followed by a number of other runs before the Great North Run 2022 which I, Jacqueline Fada and David Ashcroft have already signed up for and hope to be joined by more family members.

I will update this whenever there are any changes at all.

Thank you ❤️

I would like to give everyone a little update. As people know, my primary is lung cancer and secondary is in some bones. These bones are my scapula, sternum, rib and spine. I would have been going about living my normal life but I’ve been very unlucky with it getting to my spine. My L2 and L3 vertebrae have tumours which have reduced my mobility massively. I had radiotherapy yesterday (23/11) which will hopefully reduce the tumours and give me some mobility.

Thank you so much to everyone for supporting this page. It means a lot to my family and me. Love Mick xxx
