Hi, I'm Michelle; I own a dog pack hiking and training business in Los Angeles, CA. I have loved and rescued animals since I was a small child. I even jumped out of a (slowly) moving vehicle when I was 5 to save a bird! It was only a natural evolution that I would work with animals and continue rescuing them. I currently live with 4 of my rescues.

On November 18, 2016 I was finishing a hike with my pack when I passed two of my clients getting ready to hike their own dogs. A fight broke out between the dogs, one of the women was knocked to the ground and as my pack jumped in I, acting out of instinct, dove in to stop it. As I stood up, I realized that while everyone (women and dogs) were unharmed, I had been bitten in the face and leg. My glasses were pushed into my eyes and, in the chaos, nobody saw which dogs bit me.

I was rushed to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, CA. My lip was completely severed all the way through, the muscle was completely severed as well. A plastic surgeon was called due to the severity of my injury. I received 5 stitches in my leg, 3 in my cheek and 35+ stitches in the muscle, flesh and skin of my lip. As I am still healing, it is unclear whether or not I will need additional procedures to completely repair the damage.

Unfortunately, the owner of the aggressor dog is facing grievous circumstances and is unable to contribute to the medical expenses. I am a new business owner and single woman with a limited budget and so, at this time, am uninsured and at a loss as to how I can pay the high bills.

While my business is steadily growing towards it's potential, 2016 has presented some hardships. I rescued three small dogs from a life of neglect after they were abandoned with me along with an unpaid invoice for two months of boarding. It took 9 months to find them all homes during which I covered all medical (vaccinations/sterilizations), food and parasite control expenses.

I work very hard to build my business and support myself and my rescue family. I am very hesitant to reach out for assistance. I was reminded that sometimes you need to acknowledge when you're stuck in a place that you cannot get out of on your own, and have the courage to ask for help.

I would be so grateful for any help towards my medical expenses..

If you can't (or can) donate, please share. Thank you.
