“It’s a shock because we consider this holy ground,” said Bishop Clarence Montgomery.

The Michigan Street Baptist Church is one of Buffalo’s oldest houses of worship and served as a safe house for enslaved people of African descent who were attempting to escape to Canada and freedom throughout the mid-19th century. Please help restore and reinstall these historic markers as soon as possible and help demonstrate that Buffalo is truly the City of Good Neighbors.

This initiative is being undertaken by the staff at Visit Buffalo Niagara and Buffalo's hospitality community to assist one of our tourism partners in their time of need.
