Michigan Army National Troop Support

Tax deductible
At a bare minimum, our soldiers deserve to eat meals that are cooked properly and safe to consume. Even enemy detainees are given that basic right. But the 1,000 Michigan National Guard soldiers currently assigned to Washington D.C. have routinely been served meals that were undercooked, unsafe, and inedible.

State Senators Tom Barrett R-Charlotte, and Adam Hollier D-Detroit, are partnering with Zero Day, a veteran focused 501 c3 charitable organization to raise funds to distribute prepaid gift cards for food purchases for our Michigan National Guard soldiers currently assigned to the U.S. Capitol. These cards could be used by each individual soldier to purchase meals that are safe, healthy, and nutritious, or to reimburse them for meals they have already purchased.

Multiple news outlets have exposed the unacceptable and unsafe meals that the troops have been provided. Many soldiers have reported raw and undercooked meals, as well as meals that have been left out for hours before they were served. At least one soldier reported finding metal debris in his meal, and another 50 soldiers have been treated for food poisoning symptoms since they arrived on duty.

On Wednesday the Michigan Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 21, calling on the National Guard Bureau to terminate the food service contract and to immediately provide a meal per-diem for each soldier. The National Guard Bureau has refused.

Michigan has 1,000 soldiers on assignment in Washington D.C, and the goal is to raise at least $100,000 so that each soldier will receive at least a $100 gift card.

Let’s show our soldiers that we have their back and that Michigan will always take care of our own, even when the federal government will not. Every single contribution is appreciated. We are attempting to work with the prepaid card carriers to waive the card processing fees in hopes of passing all of the funds raised directly to the soldiers.
