As if a pandemic was not enough chaos for one year, Michelle and Kayla’s world has just been flipped upside down yet again. On Tuesday while Kayla was at work, she got a call that her mom, Michelle, was found unresponsive laying on the basement floor.
This past summer Michelle was seen and examined for pain and tingling on the right side of her head with severe migraines. After multiple MRI studies, 5 aneurysms were discovered. In June, Michelle went into surgery where a stent-assisted coiling technique was used. She is strong and resilient and recovered beautifully. This past week, she went into surgery again for the same procedure. She was discharged the next day and recovery seemed to be going well again so Kayla returned to work. On Tuesday, paramedics found Michelle unresponsive laying on the basement floor while Kayla was at work and rushed her to SSM DePaul. A CT scan revealed that she was hemorrhaging into her brain from the procedure. Kayla rushed to DePaul to find her mom laying in the hospital bed completely disoriented and unable to speak or even smile. She is currently in the ICU being monitored closely as her healthcare team determines the best plan of treatment. She is under mild sedation but thankfully still breathing on her own. If the bleeding and swelling in Michelle’s brain are not resolved soon, the doctors will perform a craniectomy where a portion of her skull is removed to relieve the pressure. Michelle will then be put on life support to allow her body to heal.
As Michelle has been unable to work, Kayla has been working hard since finishing school to try to keep up with bills. With the condition that Michelle is in right now, the last thing that we want Kayla to have to worry about is medical bills. With that being said, there are going to be a lot of them. Between the emergency care, the surgeries, the extended ICU stay, and recovery, we are asking for any help you can give to assist Kayla with the enormous cost of Michelle’s treatment.
