My name is Bailey Meeks and this past year my mother, Michelle Smith, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer. It has been quite the battle, with her completing her chemo and radiation treatments just this early May. Results have shown improvements in her tumor, however this is a very aggressive form of cancer. Her treatment plan involves immunotherapy infusions as the next step in prolonging her life. Her FMLA has run out and she no longer has insurance to help pay for treatment expenses, leaving us to pay out of pocket. We have searched for any and all financial aid for her treatments, but for many, we are JUST above the threshold of need requirements. I work two jobs, and she no longer has the ability to work, so we are struggling to find options to pay for her life-saving treatments. If we cannot qualify for this last charity we have applied for, they are going to refuse treatment due to inability to pay. I do not often ask for handouts of any kind, but I plead that we can make something work to keep my mother alive and relatively well so that she can enjoy her life and be with us for as long as possible.
