I have a progressively degenerative neuro-muscular condition called Charot-Marie-Tooth disease that had me walking with forearm crutches by age 19 and using a wheelchair full-time for the last five years.
I've finally outgrown/beat the crap out of my current Tilite wheelchair just by using it and living in it every day for more than four years. Using a chair for years had also changed my needs. I'd now like to retire it as my back-up (because I've definitely needed a back-up more than once) and get a new rigid frame chair that actually fits and supports my body. In the last few months the front castor wheel on my current chair has needed repair more than once, leaving me without a manual back-up... and as I use it to even get around my apartment, that's more than a little scary.
As a self employed , soon to be divorced, disabled woman living in one of the most expensive cities in the world - I could definitely use any help I can get with this expense. Government healthcare unfortunately doesn't assist with a chair like this and other insurance won't cover it as it's a pre-existing condition. So I'm reaching out to you - my friends, family and kind strangers. Every little bit helps, including sharing this page or sending a kind thought. I feel uncomfortable and vulnerable asking for any sort of help like this but having a chair that properly fits and is reliable worth more than my pride. I appreciate you all endlessly.
