Michelle Sykes' Journey to Recovery

Donation protected

On July 11th, Michelle Sykes went in for a heart murmur to be fixed so she can have a hip replacement. This was required by the doctors to be done first. After the successful heart murmur surgery, she unfortunately had multiple strokes. At one moment, the family rushed to her side to be with her, as her life expectancy was uncertain.

For the first month after her stroke, she was heavily sedated to help stabilize her vitals. At this point, the doctors were still unsure how the stroke would affect her body.

After two and a half months in Missoula's Saint Patrick’s Hospital, the decision was made for her to have proper rehab care in Billings on September 5th. But unfortunately, she had to be moved from Advanced Care Hospital of Montana because she still had a tracheotomy. The advanced care hospital rehab center could no longer care for her with the tracheotomy in place.

On October 21st, she was once again moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho for rehab that specializes in therapy for people on ventilators.

Michelle is doing much better these days. Her stroke left her with very weak muscles. She is able to eat on her own with the assistance of someone feeding her. She can lift her left arm and move her toes and lower legs. She is getting better each day.

With all this being said, Jim and Michelle insurance is running out of It’s allowance to cover inpatient rehab. Unfortunately she is not in a position to do home care.

With a very heavy and embarrassed heart, her husband, Jim Sykes has asked to start a go fund me page for Michelle (Mike) (Chevy). To help cover the daily cost of $200 per day after medicare allowance.

  • The family hopes She will return to Montana, and a rehab center closer to home by the middle of February. we are all taking this one day at a time. We are here to help support Jim too, through this difficult time.
  • Jim is traveling with their three beloved Bernese Mountain dogs from Montana on a weekly basis to see Michelle in Idaho. Winter is setting in and the road are getting more difficult.
