Michelle is a 49-year-old Forsyth County 8th grade math teacher at North Forsyth Middle School. She has been a teacher in this county for 11 years. She is also my mom. She raised both me and my sister, Carrie, and we could not ask for a better mother. She is such a kind and loving person. She is the person that I strive to be when I become a mom. She has always been there for us, through the good and the bad, and really cares about other people. She was living life, taking trips, and enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Dave Schroeder, until this sickness began to take a toll on her. You are never ready to get the news that your mom has cancer. Our family has made so many wonderful memories up to this time in our lives, and we have every intention to continue making these memories for years to come. We have stuck by her side through these tough times, and I believe with God's help, we will all get through this together.
My mom was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive brain cancer, a grade IV glioblastoma, for which there is no cure. Without treatment, doctors estimated she would have 3-6 months. With treatment, possibly 12-15 months. She has been unable to teach since May, has lost most of her hearing and struggles daily with dizziness and headaches. She has just finished chemotherapy and radiation. She is now pursuing integrative treatment options as well as traditional medicine to increase her chances of fighting this cancer. Unfortunately, the integrative treatment therapies are not covered by insurance, and her medical expenses are approximately $1,000 per week.
My mom has two big desires: to teach again and to meet and babysit her future grandchildren. Can you please help try to make this possible? We have been overwhelmed so far by all the support she has received! The cards, calls, messages, texts, gifts, meals, and rides have been humbling to all of us. The number of people praying for her is astronomical, and we are all so grateful for those prayers! We are continuing to pray for a miracle. God is able!
