My name is Michelle Rufener, I am a Alpine ski racer.
It's almost been three years, since I moved from Switzerland to Alberta, Canada. I grew up in Pontresina, a town almost like Canmore with mountains and a big lake. I actually started skiing when I was 6, but ski racing wasn't the only thing I was interested in. I was a figure skater before I found the pleasure in skiing down a hill really fast. I participated in as many sports as possible including Voltige (gymnastics on a horse) swimming, climbing, track and field and surfing.
My passion in skiing grew and grew when I got older.
Once we moved to Canada I had to start last at every race because I wasn't able to transfer my swiss race points. I fought my way to the top and at the end of season 2015 I accomplished coming third overall and winning the prize of fastest female.
I started off with a second place at my first FIS race, which was also my first race of the season and another third place in downhill at the Kimberley speed series.
I was able to bring down my points in Giant slalom by getting third and second at the U18's in Rossland, BC.

Combining school and skiing is hard at this age and especially since I miss alot of school. Now that I am completing my first year of FIS, getting good results is tough and the competition is at a high level. Traveling to different places is important to score the points you would like to accomplish! But it also means spending alot of money on race entries , gas, equiptment, training. plane tickets and team fees of course.
So that't where the help of you guys comes in.
Ski racing has become my absolute passion and without it part of me would be completely missing. Coming through the finish and hearing my friends cheer and achieving the goal that you set yourself before the race, really is what makes all of the hard work and long training days worth it. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
