My beautiful sister Michelle Nixon had a massive stroke on October 6, 2023. She was found unconscious in her home by her best friend and rushed to the ICU. During a two week coma she survived 4 surgical procedures to remove blood clots from her brain and neck. It was a miracle that doctors were able to restore proper blood flow to her brain but her brain was damaged by the significant pressure. During her three weeks stay in the ICU she shocked the medical staff by waking up and regaining the ability to talk and comprehend. Michelle is truly still herself, witty and sharp, friendly and so much fun to talk to. She feels incredibly grateful to be alive and tells us regularly how happy she is to still be with us! Unfortunately, Michelle’s control of her limbs was significantly damaged. She has had to work so hard to relearn to walk and use her arms. It has been incredible to see her determination to regain her abilities. She has a long way to go as she is currently working to be able to use her hands. She’s unable to eat on her own or use her IPhone. She is a very strong and independent woman, so it has been difficult for her to have to rely on parents to do almost everything for her.

Michelle has been at a nursing facility but will soon go home. Once home, Michelle will need lots of specialized equipment and will be spending each day in an intensive physical therapy outpatient program. Much of the equipment will not be covered by insurance and we don’t know when she will be able to return to work. Knowing Michelle’s strong and independent spirit, we are confident she’ll make a full recovery, but it will take time and a lot of expensive care. Michelle has touched all of our lives in some way and we hope you will join us in supporting her financially.
