Hi my name is Michelle and i am trying to raise money to find a new home after a fire destroyed everything i own. I am a single mother of an eight year old little boy. A little over a week ago, June 17th, only two days after my son's 8th birthday, we lost everything in a horrific house fire. The fire destroyed my house, my car, and two of my neighbor's houses. Thankfully nobody was seriously injured. Around 8pm a little girl threw a lit sparkler into an abandoned garage that was filled with garbage. The garage was next to my house. The fire got out of control very quickly and hit a powerline catching my upstairs balcony on fire. I was blocked from the ally by the fire and had to run around the block to get to the front of my house. My neighbor whos also lost her home ran into my burning home and rescued my 13 year old dog and the puppy i had just gotten my son the day before. The firemen rescued 3 of my cats. The cat you see in the picture was seen trying to scratch his way out of the upstairs window before he was rescued. A women i barley knew wrapped every one of my pets brought out in a blanket and ran them to her house and took my son to her house to keep them all safe. I called my sons father to come stay with him while i waited and watched everything be destroyed. The abandoned garage collapsed when the hoses hit hit, right on to my car. My car was also on fire. I watched my neighbors children and my own child scream and cry in terror and we (me and the other mothers) were completely helpless. This went on for hours and a few times i thought i would pass out or throw up. Finally after the fire was out i was able to enter my house to retrieve my purse and look for my missing 2 cats. I found them both hiding in my kitchen. Soaking wet and terrified, but alive and unharmed. The upstairs of my house was destroyed from the fire. Nothing was salvageable. Downstairs was mostly water damage and ceiling tiles had fallen. I am so thankful we had done laundry that day. I was able to recover all of our clothes that were bagged up. They were just soaking wet. The woman who helped me with my son and pets offered us a place to stay for the night and gave us her own bed that night. The next day i was able to get just a few things from the house. But all my sons toys, our furniture, Everything is gone. We lost everything Every photo, or any baby stuff id saved from when my son was small is gone. My house and car was looted the day after. Redcross helped us with $500 that i spent on the hotel the first week. The money didnt last. I had to pay out of pocket this week. My car insurance is going to reimburse me for the rental car and ill be getting another car but i had to pay out of pocket until everything is situated. $600 so far for the rental. Hopefully ill get that back soon. The community has come together and donated toys and other personal needs. The vet has seen one dog so far by donations. So im extremely greatful for any help we have received. I haven't asked for anything for myself. I just want to make sure my son is ok. He is traumatized and will be starting therapy soon. Im hoping by making a gofund me i can raise enough money just to help us get another place to live and out of the hotel. I do have my 2 dogs and 5 cats in one room and an 8 year old little boy that only wants things back to normal. And he misses his friends terribly. If anyone can help us get another place i would be extremely greatful. It isnt easy asking for help. Ive always taken care of my son by myself. Thank you for taking the time to read this
