Michelle Lockhart - Bridge the Gap Fund
Donation protected
This fundraiser is set up to provide support to our friend Michelle Lockhart who has Stage 4 Metastactic Breast Cancer. This type of cancer is never cured, she will always be fighting this horrible disease.
Michelle has been unable to work since September 2023 due to the implications of her intense treatments and side effects. She has been approved for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance); however, she will not start receiving the SSDI funds until at least April timeframe. She has been without a stable income since September and has been attempting to bridge the gap by being an Uber driver and doing DoorDash.
The last thing Michelle needs to worry about right now is having enough money to eat or enough money to pay the electricity bill. She has received some assistance from her church food pantry and from friends here and there, but we need to come together to help Michelle not have to worry about food and paying necessary bills.
Michelle is a fellow North Wilkes High School graduate, class of 1988. Please know that Michelle is very proud and has not asked for this - we just see her need and really want to find a way to help and relieve her stress about money at this already very difficult time. Any amount would be greatly appreciated to help our dear friend Michelle!
** UPDATE - JULY 25, 2025 **
Many thanks to those who have supported Michelle in various ways throughout this journey of Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer. We just wanted to provide an update and ask for continued support for Michelle. For those not familiar with Stage 4 metastatic cancer, it is a condition that does not have a cure and does not go away. Michelle lives with this every.single.day and it impacts every area of her life. She is constantly needing ongoing treatments, scans, MRIs, and specialist appointments. She is not able to drive herself any more, so her ability to help offset various costs and expenses doing Uber or Doordash is now gone. She does receive SSDI and food stamps; however, the amount she receives per month is less than most people would earn in one week. She can no longer drive or work, and she also needs assistance doing basic things like walking, cooking, taking a shower, basic household chores, etc.
For those of us who know Michelle, we know that she has always been extremely independent, so her reality now is truly difficult from many perspectives, including mentally and financially. She barely has the funds to cover the basic costs of food and housing, plus she has medical costs and also things that come up from time to time like the need for new tires for the car that people use to get her to and from her many appointments. So please continue to send your love and support to Michelle, and if you are able to help at all financially, any amount would be greatly appreciated!
