Michelle and Breast Cancer - a Comedy in Two Parts
Donation protected
Hello Friends!
Two years ago, our amazing Michelle was diagnosed with breast cancer in Gwendolyn (her left breast). This was a blow to her health, her business, and her finances. She had multiple surgeries, including mastectomy and reconstruction. She got through it with her characteristic passion and energy, and with help from many of you. Thank you!
In July of this year - nearly two years to the day - Michelle was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ AGAIN, this time in Maxine! WTF!
As before, her DCIS is considered a stage 0 cancer, meaning it hasn’t spread anywhere outside the ducts. And as before, her safest treatment route is mastectomy. This is scheduled for Oct 22 in Portland - 742 days after her last mastectomy. As before, we expect this to allow her to avoid chemo, radiation, and the hormone-blocking drug tamoxifen.
Though the logistics are familiar, it doesn't make the financial burden any less easy. Michelle has already missed work and racked up medical bills, just in this diagnostic stage. She will need two surgeries - in different deductible-years of course - and will miss 3-6 weeks of work for each.
Michelle and Maxine need our help!
Michelle has someone to be there with her at her surgeries, and in-home support for recovery, groceries, errands, etc. What she needs most now is financial support. Please consider donating what you can here to help her through this, and by sharing this page among your network.
