Pediatric Nurse, Michelle Irish, Badly Injured

Donation protected
What Happened
Last weekend on May 21, 2022, while out hiking near Red Rock Canyon in Southern Nevada, celebrating the last of her finals before beginning to apply to medical schools, Las Vegas area resident, Michelle Irish, was severely injured when a massive rock gave out from underneath her. In those terrifying moments, Michelle fractured bones in all her limbs, her scapula, as well as several ribs. She suffered a permanent injury to her dominant hand, a collapsed lung, internal bleeding, and dozens more superficial injuries.

Despite the difficulty of her situation and severity of her injuries, we, her family and friends, are unspeakably grateful that she survived. And enormously relieved that her medical team believes that, with a lot of hard work and support, she'll ultimately make a nearly full recovery.

About Michelle
While it will embarrass Michelle to read this, it is hard to imagine a more intelligent, compassionate, remarkable person.

She works as a nurse at a Las Vegas area hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), helping to save the lives of critically ill and premature babies. And in the past few years has simultaneously been attending classes in her off-time as a pre-med student, and studying for the MCAT in preparation to apply to med school. Michelle is an animal lover; a vegan. She enjoys reading comics, watching anime with friends, going to folk-punk shows, and baking bread. She likes Mark Rothko paintings and sculptures of tiny food for some reason.

Michelle grew up here in the Las Vegas Valley and now contributes to the community with her partner, David, a talented musician, illustrator, and graphic designer, and their two cats, Edward and Ein.

What You Can Do to Help
First, thank you for your consideration and for reading this far. Any contribution is meaningful.

In addition to medical and insurance bills, and myriad other expenses, Michelle and David will, of course, lose half their income as she focuses on healing and her recovery. To those of you with the means to contribute financially, please consider donating what you're able to this GoFundMe. The entirety will go directly to Michelle and David to help support them through these difficult next several months. We will update this page with more detail as we learn more specifics about her situation and how your donations are making a material difference. For the time being, here is a list of costs we hope to offset:
  • Insurance costs for covered and not-covered services
  • Interim care facility once Michelle is discharged from the hospital
  • Rehabilitation
  • Lost income from her inability to work for the foreseeable future. This will help to cover mortgage, utilities, food, and other general living expenses
If you wish to make a contribution via mail or other means, please use the Contact button below to work out details.

Times are tough for many, so if you're unable to provide a monetary contribution, that's okay. But please share this GoFundMe campaign and/or the post that brought you here. So often, these crowdfunding campaigns' success is tied directly to the number of people who see them, so sharing helps more than you know. You may use the hashtag #MichelleFell to associate your posts with this campaign.

On behalf of Michelle and her family, thank you, thank you, thank you. Let’s blow past this goal!
