Michelle Duffy Medical Bills

29 year old Michelle Duffy did everything right when it comes to life. A natural born athlete that used her perseverance on and off the field to achieve big goals. At the age of 28 she did what most people don't do until they are well into their 30s, she bought her own home. Why might this matter? It's because of how in a few minutes Michelle's life was flipped upside down.
On August 26th of this year, Michelle suffered an acute ischemic stroke. At its peak her stroke was a 14 out of 14 on the stroke scale. The cause of this stroke was later found to be because of an atrial septal aneurism in her heart. Because of the quick thinking of her boyfriend Corey, and other friends with her at the time, Michelle was able to get treated quickly without facing catastrophic physical or mental damage.
What does life look like now for Michelle? There is a daily struggle with simple tasks that most of us take for granted everyday. Pouring dog food into a bowl can be daunting, remembering certain words, and avoiding depression (a common side effect of strokes) by moving forward with her life as best as she can.
On the outside she is fighting strong, she got straight back into working only a few days after she had suffered the stroke, and kept up her physical fitness with her new passion for cycling. On the inside it is a constant battle with what she wants to say and do and what her brain will allow her to do. Despite all of this, the most unnerving thing on Michelle's mind is how she will be able to afford all of the medical bills already accumulated, while also paying the mortgage for her new home.
Michelle has done the best she can to keep herself afloat with the financial struggles, but it has already taken away all of her life savings. If you can offer her any kind of support in this difficult time it would be greatly appreciated. The goal is set for $15,000 but even if this amount is raised it will only put a small dent in her medical bills.
So far there have been numerous CTs and MRI's done on Michelle's brain and heart. Since she also had to be airlifted to a different facility than the hospital she had started at, that was another massive expense she had to face. Even with health insurance Michelle is looking at medical bills nearing $100,000. Unfortunately this is not the end total. Michelle still needs a TEE - trans esophageal echo to evaluate the hole in her heart which she'll need to be under anesthesia for. This is all to lead up to the actual surgery she will undergo to close the hole in her heart so that this situation doesn't happen again.
Sharing this fundraiser with as many people as you can will also be an extraordinary help to Michelle. Any small donation will go a long way. If you know Michelle you know how incredible of a person she is. She is wildly independent, strong, and determined in everything that she does. She absolutely hates the fact that she even needs the support of anyone in order to make it through this. As someone who has known Michelle since we were teenagers, it is typical that she would try to hide the fact that she is struggling. In times of need she has always been there for her family and friends. So it is time that we are there for her.
PLEASE learn the stroke symptoms, as without those around her having this knowledge she could be in a different boat. FAST (Facial numbness, Arm weakness, Speech slurring, Time to call 911)
Thank you for consideration and your generosity to helping Michelle put this horrible situation behind her.
