My name is Eileen Cooper. I am the eldest of seven sisters. We are originally from Skokie, Illinois and have lived in Arizona since the 1970’s.
I am raising funds to help my sister Michelle and her family. The funds will be used to pay medical expenses to treat Michelle’s breast cancer that has metastasized. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation.
One year ago Michelle’s youngest son was diagnosed with leukemia. It was devastating to the family who incurred huge medical expenses for his treatment.
Their world turned upside down when Michelle received a life-altering diagnosis - stage 4 breast cancer - that had metastasized to her bones and pancreas. It was a diagnosis that would shatter their lives and open their eyes to the devastating financial implications of a serious illness.
Michelle’s battle against cancer began with a mastectomy. The surgery is over but the chemotherapy, radiation, and countless doctor visits have just begun. Eric, her loving husband and dedicated father, took on the dual role of caretaker and breadwinner. He is juggling work and the ever-increasing pile of medical bills that seem to arrive like clockwork.
The financial impact is swift and merciless. Despite their health insurance, the co-pays and deductibles left the family dealing with mounting debt. They now find themselves facing not only Michelle’s bills but also her son’s.
Unfortunately, they have discovered that the cost of illness extended beyond medical bills. There are transportation expenses for regular trips to the hospital, home healthcare fees, medications, and the unexpected costs of adapting their home for Michelle’s comfort and accessibility. The stress and emotional toll is weighing heavily on the entire family.
We, Michelle’s six sisters, are mostly retired and unable to provide funds for the huge debts they are incurring.
This story of the Burt/Davis family serves as a reminder that illness can strike anyone, and its financial impact can be devastating. It underscores the importance of empathy and community to help individuals and families weather the storm when faced with the high costs of healthcare.
We humbly ask if you can help her family. Any amount would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you!
