Michelle and Willy Bruzatori

Hi Friends,

We have a chance to bless Michelle and Willy Bruzatori with some much needed financial assistance!

Over the next few months, Michelle, Willy, and Eli will be living in Baltimore, MD while Michelle receives treatments for their unborn baby boy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In September, Michelle and Willy found out that Baby Bruzatori did not have functioning kidneys, resulting in a lack of amniotic fluid, which is needed for the development of the baby’s lungs. Their doctor encouraged them to enjoy the rest of their time with the baby during the pregnancy, but to expect their baby boy to die either due to an umbilical cord accident (the baby can compress it when there is no amniotic fluid available to cushion it) or shortly after delivery due to underdeveloped lungs. Michelle and Willy prepared for the worst by meeting with a perinatal hospice and palliative care doctor to figure out how to make the most of their baby’s life. Through this meeting, they discovered the possibility of amnioinfusion, in which synthetic amniotic fluid is injected through the abdomen into the uterus during the course of the pregnancy. While this procedure is not being performed in Arkansas, Willy and Michelle discovered an experimental treatment program at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. With the help of their doctor, they applied to the program and were invited for a consultation within a few days. After numerous tests and meetings with a maternal fetal medicine specialist, pediatric surgeon, neonatologist, pediatric nephrologist, and the transplant team, Baby Bruzatori was diagnosed with left renal agenesis and right multicystic dysplastic kidney disease. On Monday, November 18, Michelle and Willy received a call that they were accepted into this experimental program and got on a plane to Baltimore that afternoon so that Michelle could begin receiving treatments the next day.

Michelle is receiving an amnioinfusion two or more times a week to try to help with the baby’s lung development, as well as provide the cushion needed surrounding the baby as he grows. Michelle is currently at 32 weeks with a due date of February 27, but has been told to expect to deliver early, most likely within the next few weeks. If Baby Bruzatori’s lungs do well after birth, he will stay in the NICU for several months at The Johns Hopkins Hospital while he gains strength and begins receiving dialysis. If all goes well, Baby Bruzatori will be able to return home to Arkansas on dialysis with the ultimate goal of receiving a kidney transplant around the age of two.

Michelle and Willy have temporarily relocated to Baltimore. Willy is able to work remotely, but Michelle has had to take a leave of absence from her work. They currently have one income, two house payments (their home in Arkansas and their apartment in Baltimore) and countless medical bills. We ask that you pray for the Bruzatori family and please consider giving to Michelle and Willy to help take the burden of financial worry off their minds so they can concentrate on caring for their growing family. Thank you so much!
