Michelle and Josh Go to Dallas (for treatment)

For those of you who have been following Michelle’s journey, we are so excited to share some great news to kick off 2022: insurance approved Michelle’s proton therapy!

After 27+ months with more surgeries and doses of chemotherapy, this proton treatment offers a new path, and new excitement, for Michelle. Michelle’s doctors (and most importantly Michelle) believe that this treatment may be able shrink her tumor and move her to the next stage in her fight against cancer.

This daily treatment will start next week and take place over six weeks in Dallas. Closer than UCLA, but still heartbreakingly far from the kids and home. Fortunately, Josh and Michelle’s family are able to watch the kids so they can keep life fairly normal and go to class, but Josh and Michelle will have to stop work and stay in Dallas to do her daily treatments.

Over the past 2+ years, I’ve seen how friends and family have supported Michelle and our family in countless ways – everything from the prayer chains to the meal trains, from the babysitters and hang-out buddies. All of the phone calls, texts, Facebook messages and phone calls have helped keep Michelle’s spirits up and her family sane during this challenging times. Often, your generous financial support has made the difference in Michelle being able to get the needed treatment and be healthy enough to spend time with her young kids.

When I talk to Michelle and Josh, I am continually amazed by their optimism and strength, and we are all excited about this new treatment option. However, I’m also aware of how challenging this step will be. Michelle and Josh’s friends and family have been helping out for over two years, but for the next six weeks, we’re hoping for even more. Please keep them in your hearts and prayers. Please reach out to let them know you’re praying for them, because they need to know they have an entire network of people on their side.
