Michelle - A Nurse in Need

We’re reaching out with the hope that goodness & love will beat out evil & hatred...

Please meet Michelle (our mom).  She was a labor & delivery nurse who sustained a career ending injury to her back and eventually had to be placed on disability after numerous surgeries.  Despite this set back, and the day to day challenges, our mom has an incredibly big and giving heart and will go out of her way to help just about anyone she can.  She also has a special needs younger brother (Keith) who is on Kidney dialysis that she takes for treatment three times a week.  Sadly, Michelle & Keith lost both of their parents (our grandparents) years ago, leaving Michelle the legal guardian of Keith.

Perhaps with every strength there is a weakness.  Our mom took in an old friend that she was dating several years ago who at the time was virtually homeless and was down on his luck so it seemed.  Over time and with much support from my mom, he gained employment, and experienced many other positive life changes.
Fast forward to several weeks ago, after a long period of enduring many negative behaviors, our mom let him know it was not working & it was time to move on.  Within the last three weeks, his true colors emerged, to make a long story short it became ugly as my mom endured a lot in terms of verbal & emotional outbursts from him in conjunction with him proceeding to take items from our home that were not his including our mom’s deceased father’s tools.

The stress has been so bad that my mom has developed stress induced medical issues (TMI you guys probably don’t want to hear about this)

But yesterday (1/5/21) was a day none of us will forget anytime soon -  my mom’s house was virtually cleaned out as he showed up with a U-Haul.  He even took my mother’s therapeutic bed which is so important for her back and she’s STILL making payments on it.  He also took one of our dogs (Karma – a beautiful 3 year old Alaskan Malamute) that my mom also purchased after agreeing prior it would be best for her to stay with my mom for protection and safety reasons.  Needless to say such an act of betrayal was a devastating blow to her.

My sister & I are doing all we can financially & otherwise to help get our mom back on her feet but it feels overwhelming as the hole seems too deep for us to get out of by ourselves.  My sister is a classic broke college kid who attends CMU, while I’m just breaking into the business world after recently graduating CMU myself. Our mom has been left with numerous credit card bills in addition to the cost for all the items that were stolen and need to be replaced.

Granted, a valuable lesson for my mom will be to balance her open & giving heart with more discernment in the future.

We’re afraid with my mom’s limited disability monthly income, that the mess & costs he left will wipe her out and she may lose her home of 20+ years.  We’re confident with enough help to knock down the bills he left her plus money to replace her bed & other critical items, that our mom would be able to keep her house.

My sister & I are heartbroken yet we are also filled with hope that as always God will provide, that together we can flip the script and instead of a nurse taking care of us, we can take care of a nurse in her time of need…

We’re asking if you would prayerfully consider partnering with us in an effort to see good outweigh evil and love conquer hate by contributing to Michelle’s Go Fund Me.

A heartfelt thank you for your consideration,

Zach and Hannah
