Micheline Pare - A Passion For Compassion

 “I would like everyone with the gift of compassion to unite deeply with another person in his or her suffering.”

Micheline passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 6 in San Diego.  We need your help to bring her home and honour her.  

We mourn our compassionate dear friend, sister, aunt, colleague and beautiful woman.  We loved her spirit and she will continue through what she has left to us.  She authored “The Passion of Loving; The Congruent Compassionate Approach” and she was a leader and example in her work as a Hospital Catholic Pastoral Care Volunteer Coordinator and Diocesan Compassionate Care Coordinator.

Micheline fought her spreading cancer tenaciously and accepted to attend a multifaceted medical, holistic treatment facility in Mexico. Treatment at the clinic was her only hope but it was not enough.  She, Louise (her sister) and brother-in-law, were dropped off to an empty airport and left to spend a long, lonely night at the San Diego airport while waiting for a flight back to Calgary the next day.

Louise did what she could to comfort her sister.  Our hearts are heavy thinking about the pain the three experienced that long, long night.  Micheline's pain ended in the early-morning hours but the innumerable details of what to do when someone dies in a different country, when you speak French and not much English, and when financial resources aren't plentiful.  Micheline needed to stay in San Diego to satisfy the laws.

The family is in shock but needs to take actions.  They need to send money to deal with making arrangements to get Micheline home.  They need to look for needed papers so that legalities can be dealt with and that might mean needing some legal assistance.
