I've been training for my first marathon and will, I hope, complete it on April 13th in Paris. I wept when I crossed the finish line of my first half-marathon a couple of years ago, so who knows what'll happen if I actually make it to the end of this race. But aside from eliciting cheers from the crowd with my silver hair, gangly legs, ready tears and 'Jews against Genocide' t-shirt, I really want to raise money for some charities that are doing vital work in Palestine. All three were personally recommended by different Palestinian friends. I will split the money raised equally amongst the three organisations.
'Rivers of Mercy' provides primary care assistance in the West Bank through water, medical aid, individual case sponsorship, and education. You can visit their website here , and, if you're an educator, you may want to volunteer for their online teaching initiatives too. The Hanoon Foundation concentrates on supporting and advancing medical education in Palestine. You can find out all about them here . Finally, the Lajee Centre based in the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem provides women and young people with cultural, educational, social and developmental opportunities. You can find out more about it here .
Any donation you can make would be brilliant. If you feel more comfortable donating directly, you can do so via the links above.
