Michelle Weis - Grief and Survivor support

Donation protected
On Monday, October 28, Michelle’s husband and partner of 29 years, Jim Weis, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home from a massive heart attack. Jim was a devoted husband, a loving father, a brother, an uncle and a great friend to many. His death was devastating and shocking to Michelle, their three sons and to Jim’s twin Steve.

Tragically, Michelle came home and found Jim unconscious on the bathroom floor. Her screaming quickly caught the attention of their son Tyler and his girlfriend Tatiana. Both Tyler and Tatiana performed CPR on Jim until the paramedics arrived. Heartbreakingly they could not revive him.

Jim, 69, was a fourth generation Petaluman. He lived with his family on property next door to his dad, Bernard (recently passed), and his twin Steve and his family. Jim was an amazing father to Clint 28, Tyler 25 and Drake 22. He volunteered in his sons 4H archery program, coached them in baseball, he hosted their friends on a regular basis, always making everyone feel welcomed. Jim was a real estate agent and worked at the same company, Century 21 Bundesen, for 30 years. He loved playing music and was in a band with his brother, he played baseball and boy did he laugh a lot. Jim was a wonderful man and his bright joyful personality and will greatly be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.

Gratefully Jim was with his family on Sunday, October 27 to share in one last celebration. Jim & Michelle’s oldest son, Clint, announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend Christina. Jim was there to share in the love with Michelle, Clint & Christina, Tyler & Tatiana, Drake and Steve & Diane.

Michelle and the boys will get through this. Michelle is a fighter. As she has recently has proven in her battle and survival against cancer. Michelle was diagnosed in January 2019. During the eight months of treatment, Michelle fought and Jim and the boys were at her side the entire time supporting her. Michelle received the blessing of remission in August. She and Jim believed they had just come out of the darkness and they would be able to start a new cycle of their life.

At the time of Michelle’s diagnosis, she did not have medical insurance and was no longer able to work. Michelle has been on disability since her diagnosis and is still not cleared to go back to work. Michelle is in remission but she still needs significant recovery time to get back to where she was before her diagnosis. Unfortunately the clock doesn’t stop and Jim and Michelle incurred quite a bit of medical and real life debt since her illness. And now Michelle has to pay for funeral services while continuing to pay for everyday expenses on a very limited income. At this time she can only cover 1/3 of her monthly expenses and this does not include the cost of the funeral.

I offered to create this page because I knew she would not do it herself and I believe that we as a community can unite and offer financial help during their hardship. I know they would do it for anyone of us. They are a selfless, caring family and deserve the support of their community.

My family has been lucky enough to know Jim & Michelle since he coached our son in T-ball 22 years ago. Since that time our sons have become close friends and I’ve been able to witness how loving the Weis’s are. Please join me in supporting our friends. Thank you.
