Michele Freeman's Cancer Journey

Hi, I’m Russ Hamer & I’m raising money to help towards Michele Freeman's Cancer treatment.

Michele is 52 years old with 2 sons & 1 daughter and has been battling cancer since 2015 when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

She had a right side mastectomy, lymph nodes removed and multiple rounds of chemo to get rid of this cancer & it was successful!

In 2019 she was then diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian cancer where they found 9cm tumours on both ovaries. Michele had a hysterectomy and more rounds of chemo to remove it, which again was successful!

In 2021, they discovered that the cancer was back, this time on her liver and pelvic area, resulting in more surgeries and more treatment, only to find out that it had further spread to other areas.

Chemo & chemo tablets have kept it at bay for the last 8 months but now the cancer has become immune & hasn’t responded to the last round of therapy. The tumours are now bigger than ever and she has been given 13 months to live.

Michelle’s Oncologist has recommended a 12 month treatment of Bevacizumab, which blocks the blood supply that feeds the tumour, alongside chemo, but unfortunately this isn’t provided on the NHS & will cost £3,000 every 3 weeks.

Michele is physically and mentally a very strong woman and actually feels well in herself.

She loves climbing mountains and going on trips in her camper van with her family and dogs so to give her another chance and prolong her life would be amazing!

So…I’ll be enduring the most challenging, online bike ride there is on Zwift on Sunday 27th October 2024.

The ride will be 108 miles long with 8622ft of climb (equivalent to Mount St Helens) I’ll be doing this on my Wahoo smart trainer & climber which simulates real riding conditions.

I’m 48 years old and this is the toughest / longest ride I’ve ever done in one hit!

Hoping it’ll take me around 6 hours to complete, it’ll be a tough one but worth it if we can raise funds to help Michele with her treatment costs.
