Hi everyone, I am sad to share the news that our dad suddenly passed away last month. He initially went to the Emergency Room for back pain on June 21st, but after images were taken, they discovered nodules in and around his stomach and lungs. A few days later, he was transferred to Roseville for a lung biopsy, and that is when they told us he had stage 4 lung cancer. After a complete MRI (which took three days because the pain was so intolerable), we discovered that it had spread throughout his body, leaving him with multiple fractures up and down his spine and ribcage. How this man worked through all the pain is beyond me.
He had to make some quick decisions as he was given three options... start chemotherapy, head to a nursing home for pain management, or spend his last days at home with his loved ones. He opted to be comfortable at home with us while hospice was looking over his meds, so we brought him home on July 4th. The doctor told us he would be happy to see him live for the next three months... he was on hospice for only seven days and passed away on July 11th.
When us girls were growing up, he was always finding fun things for us to do, whether going on a bike ride, barbequing or packing up and going to the river. He loved exploring in one of the many Jeeps he had throughout his life, blasting Jethro Tull. He only had us girls, but we were his boys; I guess that's why he always called us "his studs."
This fundraiser is in hopes to honor our dad by giving him the Celebration of Life he deserves, medical expenses and to help us get legal advice when it comes time to handle his assets. I won't make a formal event, but if you think you can make it, send any of us a quick message or comment below, so we have somewhat of an idea of how much food to get. He loved his community, so it will be held at the park in the small town of Meadow Vista, which will take place on September 10th at 1 pm. We hope to see you all there and are excited to share the love.
