Michael's Sculpture Thesis Fundraiser

Donation protected
Hi!

My name is Michael Eustace and I'm a senior at Wesleyan University where I major in Environmental Studies and Studio Art, with a concentration in sculpture.

Right now, I'm working on my thesis that bridges the gap between these two areas of study by creating a sculpture that explores the state of the natural world as it changes immensely and irreversibly – as well as examining our relationship to that change. I cannot remember a time when I wasn't thinking of environmental issues (thanks Mom), and I'm so grateful to be given an opportunity to do what I love – create sculptures – that reflects this life-long interest.

At the most basic level, these sculptures are sections of trees rebuilt in a way that gives a semblance of what once was, among other things. To do this, I take the part of a tree traditionally thrown away in the milling process (called "the live edge slab") which I plate with sheet metal and use metal rods, airplane cable and a wide range of other materials to assemble into semblances of trees in a few different arrangements.

To complete my thesis, I need to purchase a whole host of materials, the cost of which outstrips my current financial status! A complete list of materials can be found below, and if anyone would like more in-depth information on the thinking/reasoning behind my thesis/costs of specific materials/a whole budget breakdown, please don't hesitate to reach out.

I'm truly thankful for any contribution you're able to make, and I make the sculptures to the best of my ability with you all in mind, donation or not.

Love,

Michael

P.S. You're all invited to the opening reception on April 26th, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Wesleyan University's Zilkha Gallery, or to visit anytime between April 25th - 30th, during which my thesis will be on display :)
