Michael's Story: From Homeless to Hopeful
Donation protected
My name is Michael and I am a 60-year-old divorced white male in Indianapolis, Indiana. Two years ago, I lost my job due to downsizing and struggled to find something that paid my bills, but unfortunately, I couldn't. I eventually fell behind on them, including my rent, and was eventually evicted from my apartment a year ago. Since then, I struggled to keep my job and eventually lost that too because of my homelessness. The past year, I have been sleeping in abandoned buildings, in vacant cars, and homeless shelters. Just when I was at my lowest and I was about to kill myself, a friend I hadn't talked to in years called my cousin asking her if I was okay. She gave me the message, and I called him the night before I planned to kill myself. I told him of my plans and how much pain I was in, and for the first time in my life, I heard the sadness in his voice, and he pleaded with me to keep pushing on in life, that God will help if only I gave Him a chance. That night, I didn't sleep; I kept replaying my friend's crying and his proclamation that God is there for me if I just would accept Jesus into my life. I finally fell asleep, but it wasn't peaceful. The next day, I didn't go through with it. I contacted my friend, and on that day, I gave my life to Jesus Christ. That was 8 months ago. I now have a job I just started last week, and I am borrowing my friend's car to drive to and from my new job and to sleep in until I get my first check next Friday. I am a member of E91 Christian Church on East 91st Street in Indianapolis. This Easter, my church is going to baptize me and play a five-minute video of my daily struggles on getting back on my feet and on how I once cursed the name of God to praising Him every single day. I am still new in the faith, but I have seen positive changes in my life since I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. Yes, I am still homeless, and each day is a struggle, but God has been very giving since I now leave everything to Him to deal with. I invite all of you that give to watch my friend John baptize me and watch my testimony at my church at the link https://live.e91church.com/ if you're interested.
The reason I am asking for $400 is so I can get a hotel room from today until next Friday when I will finally get my first paycheck. I need to wash my clothes and get cleaned up for this Sunday, and it would be nice to sleep in a bed for the first time in months. If you would like to help, then I really would appreciate it. Any amount would help. God bless and take care.
