Michael's story from Beth, his loving wife:

Michael Alster
Summary of past 16 months

In January of 2018, Michael Alster’s world was turned upside down.  Though he, his wife, and their five children had an idea that something was “off” with him, nothing could prepare them for what was to come.

Michael was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor that few survive past 14 months.

As a result of the tumor, two brain surgeries, six weeks of radiation and a few weeks of chemo, Michael has experienced life-altering challenges.  The sole supporter of his family is unable  to return to work at UPS.  A life-time UPS’er, Michael valued his 28 years there deeply.  His devotion to his family drives his determination to face the daily struggles accompanied by headaches, fatigue and the “unknown”.

Having experienced great difficulty with traditional treatments, Michael stepped out in a leap of faith and gave up chemo pills in exchange for radical life-style changes.  In early summer of 2018, Michael embarked on an “alternative” treatment journey that includes a vegan and organic diet, ten dietary supplements taken six times daily, ”alternative” treatments and visits to a complimentary medical doctor in New York state.  All of this provides great hope; however, it comes at quite a cost, as  “alternative” or “natural” treatments are not covered by insurance.

Despite the challenges, Michael and his family have been exceedingly blessed these past 15 months.  Faith, and the love and support of family and friends, have brought to life the fact that no matter the circumstances, every day is a gift from God.

My name is Lynne Madison and I'm Michael's friend of over 25 years.  He is definitely one of the good guys. This disease changed him in the blink of an eye. I began this campaign with the support of his family and friends to help raise money for his medical bills and other expenses that are piling up while he recovers. Please consider helping this amazing man and his equally amazing family.
