My name is Michael Miller.  I was diagnosed with insulin dependent diabetes  at age seven.  After nearly 33 years of living with diabetes, accompanied by other chronic debilitating chronic health conditions, and their associated treatments, I have developed severe insulin resistance, and hypoglycemic unawareness . Simply put, this means that I require extremely large amounts of insulin just to live, and when my blood sugar drops to dangerously low levels, I am completely asymptomatic and unaware until it is too late. I suffer from seizures, lose consciousness, and risk death with every occurrence.  In addition to having diabetes, epilepsy, and degenerative joint disease, over the past few years, I have also been diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis  and fibromyalgia . I am forced to live daily with severe pain, weakness, falls, a loss of fine motor movements and an inability to care for myself independently.  
Despite the adversity, I struggled to stay employed for as long as I could possibly manage.  But sadly I have been unable to work for 1.5 years now and despite my amazing wife, friends, family, and caregivers who have stuck by my side.. I still need your help.  Being unable to work, money is tight, and, despite having health insurance, the deductibles, fees, and co-pays add up at an alarming rate. The MIRACLE that will not only drastically improve my quality of life, but can also quite possibly save my life is a diabetes alert service dog. This is a dog  which has been extensively trained to alert to low and high blood sugars, warn of impending seizures, assist with daily activities, and even call for help if necessary. Yes. Truly a miracle, and perfectly suited to my needs. Unfortunately, these furry miracles are expensive to train, they can cost as much as $35,000, and they are not covered by medical insurance.
Being a man who has spent the majority of his life caring for others as a registered nurse, and working with charities to get help to those in need.. It is admittedly quite awkward for me to ask for help.  But, I know I can't do this on my own. And..
