Born February 15th 1972, Michael Leibowitz was born in Philadelphia, PA to Gabrielle Manspeizer and Leslie Leibowitz. Raised for a short time in Marlton, NJ and then eventually in Cherry Hill, NJ, Michael at an early age showed signs of enthusiasm, independence, trust, discernment, and strength of character.
The son of a hardworking NY television cameraman, Michael learned early about the excitement, love and opportunity with entertainment as well as a unique kind of "humble-pride" respect for artists, related industry members and their jobs well done.
From early band roles with his older brother and friends, Michael took to the idea of drums. Encouraged by his family, friends and peers, Michael learned to listen and to eventually play as a drummer and seasoned musician without judgment, with discretion, respect, a healthy adherence to obedience and always with a drive for improvement and so as to strive to be his best.
The love Michael felt from his friends and family combined with his ambitions, motivated him and he often projected his desire to share and project these feelings in his playing. Ever present and exceptional as he was, if someone had ever watched Mike's playing they would've felt that he was playing for them.
Having played in South Jersey, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Maui, and eventually Sedona, Michael commanded attention and respect with his musicianship; seemingly appropriate, as he gave these things to the music he was playing and to the musicians he was playing with.
I, as his brother watched as his love for music and the arts, as well as family, friends, unity and the dream to be his best grew throughout his life. I am seeking to raise the funds necessary to cover all remaining funeral costs and also to establish a legacy fund that will help to create an organized effort to keep my brother's love for the music, the arts and his memory alive.
