Michael Dowdy's Medical Support

Dear family and friends, 

My brother and your friend, Mike, is in critical condition, fighting for his life; all very sudden and unexpectedly. The understanding we all have at the moment is that Mike suffered salmonella food poisoning (which caused hyper dehydration and a UI tract infection) that resulted in a bacterial infection, which spread quickly to his kidneys and consequently to other organs. This aggressive infection has caused septic shock.  Currently, Mike is being treated with a wide range of anti-biotics to fight the infection, so far uncessfully. Michael is presently receiving life support (with stable vitals) and being watched 24/7 by a team of Doctors and nurses at Washington Hospital Center, which is one of D.C.'s most repuatable, quality hospitals. Although salmonella is the presumed culprit, this is not conclusive. They are working diligently by conducting additional testing to confirm their conjecture.

As you all know, Mike has been known to be extremly health conscious, physically and athetically fit. This is disturbing to all of us and we are continously praying for his recovery. 

Michael is self-employed and has been self-supporting for over 30 years. The down side to all of this is that when he is not working, he is not being compensated. It is our belief that Michael will recover and his health will be restored to full capacity, but this will take time. With the expectation of his healing, we estimate his recovery time to be roughly six (6) months. During this time period, it is our endeavor that he maintain his basic needs and quaility of life without the additional stress or pressure of not having the means to do so. 

No one knows the time or day tradgedy can strike. We all assume that if we take care of ourselves, illness will not come upon us; It is imperative that we prepare for the unknown. Unfortunately, Michael does not have life insurance. 

As we hope and pray for the best, we kindly urge you to consider assisting with Michael's basic needs upon discharge. These funds will help mitigate some of the impending expenses, including medical, home, and every day life responsibilites. Our goal is to alleviate the burden he will inveiblty have but unable to meet indpedently. We are humbly asking for your pledge, donation, or assistance, in any denomination, as you see fit, in order to meet our goal. 

We will continue providing updates on Michael's status as we are informed. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness, concern, love, support, and generosity.
