I first met Michael Dirks when he was a toddler.  My dad and his dad were child hood friends named Michael and they both had two sons named Michael; who both were called young Michael to differentiate between all 4 Michaels.  Years passed, and Young Michael Dirks grew into a man, and has overcome so many obstacles at such a young age.  This obstacle will be no different, but he will need some help in order to overcome it.

On Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2018, Michael was involved in an extremely serious motorcycle accident on Route 202. The bike hit the median guardrail with such force that Michael flew off the bike and into oncoming traffic. Thankfully, he was not struck by any oncoming traffic and an off duty EMT was nearby to assist with his severe injuries.

Michael has sustained a shattered pelvis, two fractured femurs/hips, two fractured hands, severe road burns to his body and multiple hair line fractures. He also had bleeding into his brain which has stabilized.

After being airlifted to Jefferson Hospital, he has so far gone through two surgeries to pin his hips. The doctors have said there will be at least 2-3 more surgeries and he will not be able to bear any weight on his legs for approximately 3 months. He will require months of rehabilitation, both inpatient and outpatient, and will be unable to work for many months.

Michael has two young children, a toddler named Kane who is almost 3 and an infant daughter named Khloe, and at this time has no source of income. This is going to be a long hard fight for recovery and during that time any financial help will help with the children and their needs.

We appreciate anything that anyone can do to help them during this tragic accident and again through his healing process.  To start, we are setting a goal of $5000 to raise for money for the medical expenses and care Michael will need at this time.
