I met Ramona and Michael a few months back when I started my new job. They have now been here at the hotel for over 100 days. I'll explain why:
8.5 years ago Michael and Ramona left home in search of a cure for what originally was a mysterious disease that was making Ramona very ill. Doctors thought it could be autism but after 4 years of bouncing around from state to state doctor to doctor they found out that it was a very rare case of lime disease doubled with brain encephalitis. The lime disease completely destroyed her immune system so she is limited to about 5 foods that her body can even process. Since she has no immune system she gets a VERY expensive treatment every few weeks that consists of over 2000 doners worth of healthy antibodies. So essentially she gets a temporary healthy immune system injected in to her. This is just half her battle though. The brain encephalitis is what the people around her and Michael experience most. When her brain is pushing against her skull she unfortunately gets excruciating pain which causes her to scream and act out in ways most people would associate with a crazy person. Ramona is not crazy though, she is actually far from it. She is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. BUT most people don't take the time to ask, they'd rather just assume. Michael has dedicated his life and his love to this woman. He is truly one of the most amazing people I've ever met. He quit his job...Sold his house ....and has spent almost everyday taking care of Ramona since their insurance will no longer help cover her steep and reoccurring medical expenses. I've fallen in love with these two beautiful people and their struggle. But more importantly their will to push on. Baby step by baby step they push forward every day in a situation where most couldn't even fathom staying positive. They truly are a demonstration of what real love is and should be. I wanted to start this go fund me because for the first time in 8.5 years Ramona feels at home and is starting to show glimpses of hope. Their hotel bill alone at the lowest rate possible is $5,000 dollars and climbing everyday. This is not even considering the medical side of things. If I had the money I alone would zero out their balance for their stay so that they can continue to feel at home while they fight this on going illness. So I ask if you have anything to spare please do. They are well deserving and anything helps. These are great people who could really use a break. Thank you all for your time and consideration
