My dear friend, Michaela, who also happens to be our cat’s amazing and compassionate vet tech, is currently facing an incredibly difficult situation. Michaela has an unwanted occupant living in her home that she has been renting for years. Michaela was looking for a new roommate several months ago and thought she had found a credible and decent person to move in and take over her former, longtime roommate’s spot on the lease agreement. However, this person that moved in is someone who took advantage of Michaela’s abundant kindness and procrastinated signing the lease, which they ultimately never did. This person whom after having been given repeated notice to leave, has yet to, and now this person is no longer paying rent. This is, understandably, causing significant financial and emotional stress for Michaela, who is now working multiple jobs to pay the entire rent; let alone figure out how to pay for legal fees for advice on how to move forward. Michaela has attempted to remove this person multiple times through her landlord and the police, by reaching out to this person’s estranged family members, and having gone through the 302/crisis process now twice, but all to no avail. Michaela’s landlord referred her to their lawyer, but it appears that just initial consultations cost $950, this is not including the high city and admin fees to begin the ejectment process. Michaela is at an exhaustive spot here, because she is already struggling to cover the rent on her own and taking animal caregiving odd jobs nearly every single day after working overtime shifts at the veterinary office. Meanwhile, the occupant largely remains in their room, refusing to leave the premises.

As a devoted animal caregiver, Michaela, spends her days helping those in need, helping both her patients and pet parents feel cared for, supported, and comfortable. As the cat dad to one of Michaela’s patients, I am honored to have become dear friends with Michaela over the years. This is a selfless human being whom I have come to love, trust, and value in my life. And knowing how selfless Michaela is in her daily life, I wanted to create this GoFundMe in the hopes that we can give back to her and help her find some peace by getting out of this nightmarish situation.
