Michael's battle with Lymphoma
Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth Kahler- Mike was diagnosed at the age of thirty six. He's a former Navy vet that currently works as a Systems Administrator. He is adored and loved by myself and his two step children along with other family and friends.
A year and a half ago my husband was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Mike was sent to a lung cancer specialist and tested for targeted therapies. In the end he was told there was no hope and he had six to nine months to live. His body was vastly deteriorating and after four months he took the suggestion to get a third opinion.
Thank goodness he did because we found out that Mike had been misdiagnosed. He has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. By the time we found this out the mass in his chest had doubled in size and spread to his spleen, lymph nodes, and lungs. They immediately started him on a six month regimen of chemotherapy which very quickly improved his well being. Unfortunately, midway through this particular chemo his cancer became resistant. His oncologist then recommended a stronger chemotherapy with hopes of remission and would then follow up with a stem cell transplant. This chemotherapy didn't put him in remission but they felt it reduced the cancer enough to proceed with the stem cell transplant.
In April Mike was admitted into the hospital for an almost three week stay for the transplant. He recently had his first pet scan since. We were sad to find out that the cancer is still present. He is now on a new therapy that gives him a one in nine chance of remission.
We're looking into alternative therapies that he can do along with his current chemo/ immunotherapy regimen. We definitely remain positive and hopeful that Mike will be cured and we can live a long and happy life by each others side.
Unfortunately, most alternative treatments cannot be billed to insurance and can be pricey. We are truly appreciative of any donations, prayers, and good vibes.
We thank you so much for your support!!!
