Fellow Friends and Colleagues:
As some of you may have heard, on February 2nd 2017 Michael Zwack was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. On behalf of Michael, we created this GOFundMe to help facilitate the archival process of his work and to help launch him into his next chapter. He currently has started his chemo treatments. He is in good spirits, expresses enthusiasm in starting this journey and needs our help. In his condition, he cannot be too active. It is very important we are able start this process immediately.
This process includes:
•scanning of negatives, slides, photographs, past publications & etc.
•photographing paintings & drawings
•organization of the contents of his studio of 41 years
With this Fund he will be able to properly leave his work with the same love and specialized care in which it was made.
Michael provided us with a written statement of which we would like to share with you.
"I am a 67 year old artist who has exhibited my art internationally for more than 45 years. I have been affiliated with galleries Metro Pictures, Paul Kasmin Curt Marcus and Grace Borgenicht. My work has been exhibited in museums including The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan. My work is owned by many museums including the Met. I am currently unaffiliated with any particular gallery but have never stopped making my work.
I am a painter and have also produced thousands of photographs most notably in Mexico in the 80’s and Haiti in the 90’s and 2000's. I traveled back and forth to Haiti with Master Drummer, Damas "FANFAN" Louis, which accessed some very special subject matter published in Bomb Magazine 90 Winter issue 2005, and Blind Spot issue 27. All of my photographs were taken with a Nikon single-lens reflex camera which became obsolete in the digital age. Financial restriction kept me from updating my equipment. I have thousands of negatives which have never been converted to digital, and placed into files. I also have not been able to document many paintings I have completed over the past 10 years. A few were documented for use in publications But only a few."
It is with much love and appreciation that we ask for your help!
